Hey Fellow MOREons!

Just 10 days left until the (official) end of summer so you know what that means. Yeah, it will be hot for another month. WAIT … No! I mean it’s time to plan for our Autumn Alumni Picnic!* Put a big schulenheiser** on your calendar for Saturday October 22 and join us at Ft. Lowell Park for a gathering of family and friends.

Saturday, October 22
Ft. Lowell Park Ramada 1 (by the playground)
2998 N. Craycroft Rd.
Tucson, AZ 85712
11:30 – 4:00 or thereabouts

This time we’re back at Ft. Lowell Park, right next to the playground, so bring the kids! Ramada 1 has a grill and we’ll bring charcoal and spring for a small keg. Every time we’ve done this we’ve asked that you bring food for yourselves and a bit more to share and we always have plenty to go around. Put your hands together in appreciation of Liberti Moreno for securing the Ramada reservation and beer permit!

(TUCSON PARKS AND REC HAS A NO GLASS BOTTLE POLICY SO IF YOU BRING YOUR OWN BEVERAGES, PLEASE STICK TO PLASTIC OR METAL CONTAINERS.)

We want to reach as many alumni as possible so this announcement will appear on the  PM Alumni Facebook page but we no longer have a connection on classmates.com so if you have a paid classmates.com membership, please feel free to set up a “Reunion” for this event and if you know any alumni who shun social media (Luddites one and all) please pass the word and extend a personal invitation.

We’re still trying to track down several items of memorabilia for out collection. If you have any of the following you would be willing to loan us, please bring them to the picnic. We promise to take good care of them and will return them as soon as they are copied or scanned. Wanted items include:

Graduation Programs
Any pre-1986
1991 and 2003

Graduation Videos
Any pre-1991
1994, 1998 and 2001

Photographs and any other memorabilia
Any you wish to share (be sure to clearly mark your name so they can be returned.)

Hey, you’re not getting any younger so drop on by to see how we’ve all aged, reconnect with old friends and make some ones too! Besides, if you don’t show up, how do you expect to be included in one of these wonderful group pictures we keep posting 🙂

See you on October 22nd!

*Formally called the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc. First Annual Alumni Picnic but we lost count 🙁

**Schulenheiser: not sure if it’s a real word but it sounds better than “mark your calendar.” Besides, it’s fun to say “schulenheiser”

27 April, 2016

Unexpected errors with the Google Custom Search have been encountered so we have reverted to the traditional search function until those errors are understood and corrected.  Sorry about that 🙁

25 April, 2016

The survey is now closed and we will be posting the results shortly.  To all who participated, thank you!

You may have noticed a new search box, powered by Google, at the top of the page.  We hope this will make it easier to find memorabilia that might otherwise remain hidden from view.  Please drop us a line if you encounter any problems with this new search tool.

16 April, 2016

If you have completed the survey (see April 11 post below), thank you.  If you have not, you have one more week before the survey closes and we begin examining and analyzing your input.  Remember, “Decisions are made by those who show up!”  (A good motto in an election year 🙂 )  Click the link to start the survey.

Survey Time

It’s only been a week since our latest Alumni Picnic but we’re already thinking about the fall gathering. Please take a minute and answer five quick questions to help us plan. We respect your privacy and no personal information will be gathered unless you choose to include your contact information. Click the link to start the survey.

Spring Alumni Picnic Recap

The turnout was smaller than expected (at times the number of former staff exceeded former students) but we heard no complaints and a good time seemed to have been had by all. In fact, plans are already underway for a Fall picnic 🙂

A special shout out to Cabrona Pero Cariñoza (AKA Liberti Moreno) for securing the reservations and beer permit and to Tom Anderson for providing the beer! And a special thank you to all who donated to the picnic fund. A couple of those donations were quite generous and helped us cover the cost of reserving the ramada.

The new photo album has been posted.  Check it out at 2016 Spring Alumni Picnic Gallery or find it on Facebook at Spring Alumni Picnic Facebook Album

In the next few days we’ll be posting a link to a very short survey asking for your advice/opinion about the day/date/location of the Fall picnic so keep checking back.

See you in the Fall!

John “C”

Side Note: while examining the name tags, trying to tag the photos, I realized that even though the turnout was small, FOUR DECADES of former students and staff were represented. Not too shabby!

The move was successful! (If you wonder why we keep posting about this, well, it’s because it’s a really big deal … at least from this side of the monitor.)  We’re still in the process of uploading files and found a few are still missing and a few may be lost for good.  (We lost the entire “Archives” section and the Park Avenue Journal articles are missing to name a few.)

While uploading files to the new site, we’re trying to faithfully recreate the old.  Naturally there will be some “slippage” so if you notice anything missing or anything out of place, please click on the “Contact” link in the left column and let us know.

3 February, 2016

The move is on!  New hosting has been purchased and files are being transferred.  (We hoped to migrate the old site to the new host but a crash resulted in the need to upload files manually.)  The domain name should transfer to the new host within the next 24 hours during which time the site may be unavailable.  (Sorry, we can’t be more specific about the time but that’s controlled by the new hosting company.)

While uploading files to the new site, we’re trying to faithfully recreate the old.  Naturally there will be some “slippage” so if you notice anything missing or anything out of place, please click on the “Contact” link in the left column and let us know.

The status of the TUSD Alternative ED Alumni site is undetermined at this time.  We had hoped to fold the TAEA site into the Project MORE Alumni site but the number of files involved, specifically graphic files, would make a combined site too unwieldy.  Since we’re saving a bit of money by moving the Project MORE Alumni site we may be able to buy new hosting for the TAEA site.  Watch this space for further announcements 🙂

PROJECTMOREALUMNI.COM

The move is complete!  Hopefully you will find all the pictures and graphics formally available at the old host in the (relatively) same place on the new and that page loading and file transfers will be speedier.  The domain name remains the same (projectmorealumni.com) so there is no need to update your bookmarks.  We’re still making minor tweaks to the site so keep checking back and please drop us a note if you find anything missing or links that do not work.

ALTERNATIVEEDALUMNI.COM

This move is also complete.  If you had the site bookmarked you will now be taken to the projectmorealumni.com page.  To go to the TUSD Alternative ED Alumni page click on the “All Alternative Schools” tab in the top menu or if you find that annoying, update your old bookmark to http://altedalumni.projectmorealumni.com/ and you will be taken directly to the correct page.  As mentioned in previous posts, this was done because the TUSD Alternative Ed website had few visitors and quite a bit of money has been saved by making it a sub-site of the Project MORE site.

20 March, 2016

Hey Fellow MOREons!

Just TWO WEEKS ‘till the next Alumni Picnic!  (Sunday, April 3 at La Madera Park.)  If somehow this has escaped your attention, scroll down to the 3 March post below or check out the details at  https://www.facebook.com/events/1673064942950396/

We need your help contacting fellow alumni.  The last time we searched Facebook, 579 people had indicated an association with Project MORE (graduated, attended, liked, etc.)  Unfortunately Facebook  only allows us to invite people who are in our Friend’s List so please take a moment, scan the list at People associated with Project MORE on Facebook and pass along an invitation to anyone with whom you may be in contact. (Ok, we know it’s going to take more than a moment to scan 579 names but you catch out drift.) (For those who feel Facebook is evil, please note that the link is to a page on this website, not Facebook 🙂 )

See you on the 3rd!

3 March, 2016

So far, all the posts this year have been about “The Move” (check out the Archives page for details.)  Getting tired of that?  (Aren’t we all!)  Time for something new…

REMINDER!  We’re just a month away from the next ALUMNI PICNIC!

Put a big schulenheiser** on your calendar anticipating an afternoon of camaraderie and bonhomie!

Sunday, April 3
La Madera Park
2700 E La Madera Dr
11:30 – 4:00 or thereabouts

Once again the picnic will be on a Sunday in hopes that we can see some new (old) faces.

We had nothing but compliments (that’s compliments, not complaints) about La Madera Park so we’re going back! A tip of the New Year’s Top Hat to Liberti Moreno for securing the park reservation and beer permit!

Map:

The park has only one ramada (so it will be easy to find us), lots of shade, a brand new playground (so bring the kids), basketball and even horseshoes. (This time we will remember to bring the shoes 🙂 )

The Ramada has a grill and we’ll bring charcoal and BBQ tools. (Tom Anderson has once again volunteered to spring for small keg !) cEach time we’ve had a picnic we asked that you bring food for yourselves and a bit more to share and we’ve always had plenty to go around. (Tucson Parks and Rec has a no glass bottle policy so if you bring beverages, please stick to plastic or metal containers.)

WE NEED YOUR HELP NOTIFYING OUR FELLOW ALUMNI! If you know of any alumni (alumnus?) that doesn’t frequent Facebook or projectmorealumni.com, please extend a personal invitation and ask them to “like” the Project MORE Alumni Facebook page so they get an invitation and updates! (We are assembling a list of former MOREons who have a presence on Facebook but have not “friended” Project MORE Alumni and hope to have that list posted shortly. If you are in contact with anyone on that list, please ask them to “Like” us so they can receive invitations and updates.)

We’re still trying to track down several items of memorabilia. If you have any of the following you would be willing to loan us, please bring them to the picnic. We promise to take good care of them and will return them as soon as they are copied or scanned. Wanted items include:

Graduation Programs
Any pre-1986
1991 and 2003

Graduation Videos
Any pre-1991
1994, 1998 and 2001

Photographs and any other memorabilia
Any you wish to share (be sure to clearly mark your name so they can be returned.)

2015 was kind of rough year having lost so many friends so why not take this opportunity to visit with current friends, reconnect with old friends and make some new friends!

See you April 3!
